Watch for hidden 10% to 30% markups or kickbacks. Transparent fees may include a $500-$1,000 audit fee, a $1,500-$5,000 monthly retainer or a clearly disclosed 3%-6% commission.

Request unredacted inspection reports with defect photos, AQL data and the factory name.

Speak with clients who buy similar products and ask about defect rates, response speed and how failed orders were handled.
